Vocabulary

reality show, commercial, documentary, sport programme, news, and channel.
Objectives:
At the end of the lesson students will be
able to;
- describe at least 10 words (sitcom, talk
show, TV series, cartoon, reality show, commercial, documentary, sport
programme, news, and channel).
- find out the target structure (prefer)
- order the split sentences
- choose the correct pictures according to
the sentences.
- make up their own sentences by using
“prefer” according to chart.
INTRODUCTION
Teacher comes to class and greets her
students and asks questions to the students “Do you like watching television?
Did you watch television last night? What did you watch?” Teacher says “Today
we have a friend. Do you know him? He is Bart. Let’s look at what he watches on
TV”.
Vocabulary
She shows
flashcards about vocabulary items one by one and asks the students “What do you
see in this picture?” After they say their opinions and the teacher gives vocabulary
items and they repeat them.
Vocabulary activity:
Then, teacher says that we will play a game.
It is “what is missing?” game. Teacher sticks flashcards on the board. She asks
them to close their eyes. When they close their eyes, the teacher takes out one
of them and asks them to open their eyes and says “what is missing?” Students
try to guess “what is missing?”
STAGES
OF THE LESSON
Lead-in:
Teacher says that let’s learn about Bart
and his family. The teacher gives a text to the students. Firstly, students
read the text silently. Secondly, the teacher reads the text. Finally, every
student reads a sentence. After that the
students answer the following questions.
Elicitation:
Teacher asks students to say the dark and
underlined sentences from the text. Students say, and the teacher sticks the
flashcards related to the sentences.
Explanation:
The teacher writes the sentence and meaning
of the sentence. Then, he/she asks the students some concept questions.
Students answer. Then, the teacher sticks a substitution table and asks them to
repeat. Teacher explains the target grammar structure by using the substitution
table.
Accurate
reproduction (controlled practice):
Teacher gives a worksheet to the students.
In this worksheet, they put the words into correct order and write sentences.
Then, the teacher checks students’ answers. Also, the teacher writes the
answers on the board.
Guided practice (semi- controlled):
Teacher gives a worksheet. In this
worksheet, they choose the correct pictures according to the sentences. After students finish, they check their
answers all together.
Immediate
creativity (free practice):
Teacher gives a worksheet to the students.
In this worksheet, the teacher says “Tick the chart according to you and your
friends and make sentences by using prefer”.
Closure:
Teacher summarizes the topic by using flashcards. She
says “she prefer/ prefers …..” and shows the flashcards (sitcom) and the students
complete the sentences and say “she prefers sitcom”.
Contingency
plan: Teacher gives a worksheet. In this worksheet,
the teacher asks them to look at the pictures and write sentences according to
the pictures by using prefer.
