Story Telling

 LESSON PLAN

Age group of The Students: 6
Grade: Kindergarten
Level of Proficiency: Beginner
Size of Class: 15
Time: 45 minutes
Language: Grammar; simple present tense
                  Vocabulary; stork, fox, bill, soup, forest, plate, jar, angry, hungry
Equipment Needed: Flashcards, cardboard, crayons, glue, coloring pages, scissor, and worksheet.
Objective 1: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to develop their listening and speaking skills thanks to the storytelling.
Objective 2: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to identify 9 vocabularies about the story. (Stork, fox, bill, soup, forest, plate, jar, angry, hungry)
Objective 3: At the end of the lesson, students will be able to express sentences in simple present tense.
WARM-UP
Teacher greets the class and sticks a picture on the board. The teacher asks “What do you see in this picture?. “ Students answer in Turkish. The teacher continues to ask until he/she gets the answer ‘stork and fox’.
PRE-STAGE
Vocabulary Teaching
Teacher shows flashcards one by one and asks students “What is this?” Students answer in Turkish and teacher says “This is a stork, fox … .“  At the same time, teacher says, students repeat. After all of them finish, the teacher and the students repeat together one more time.
Vocabulary Check Activity
Teacher hangs flashcards on different sides of the wall. He/she says that I will say a word and point to the right picture. Then, the teacher says a word and students point to the picture of the word.
Art-craft Activity
Teacher says “I will give these pictures and cardboards, color and cut the pictures and stick on the cardboard like this” by showing headband. Teacher gives the pictures and cardboards to the students. Every student has one picture (a stork or a fox). Students color and cut and make their headbands. And teacher says that we will use these later.
WHILE STAGE
First Telling
Teacher says that I will tell a story for you. It is “The Fox and Stork”. Teacher says that I will give you these worksheets.  Listen to the story carefully and match these pictures with stork or fox.
Second Telling
Teacher says that show me your headband and asks “Who are storks?”, “Come to the right side and sit down. Then he/she asks “Who are foxes?” , “Come to the left side and sit down. Teacher starts to tell the story. Teacher says parts of speech and wants students to repeat after him/her. Students act out the story with guiding of the teacher.
POST STAGE
Activity 1
Teacher says that I will give you these worksheets; I will say a sentence, listen to me carefully and circle the right picture. Teacher gives the worksheets to the students and says sentences one by one. Teacher says number one. Number one is “There are a fox and stork in the forest.” Students circle the right picture. Number two is “Fox eats the soup.” Number 3 is “The Stork goes to his home.”


Activity 2
Teacher says that it is a fox and the fox asks you questions. Answer it. Teacher demonstrates with the model of fox. For example; “Do you like soup/….?”. When the students answer yes/no, the teacher says the full sentence and wants to repeat after him/her.
THE FOX AND STORK (Original text)
One day, Fox asks Stork to come to dinner. Fox puts some soup on a flat dish. He thinks it is funny. Stork comes to Fox’s house. “Hello, Stork. Come in.” says Fox. “We are having soup for dinner.” Stork looks at the dish. He tries to eat some soup, but he cannot. Fox eats all of his soup. He looks at Stork’s dish. A lot of soup is in the dish. “Don’t you like the soup?” asks Fox. Stork goes out of Fox’s house hungry. At the door, Stork says, “Come to dinner at my house Fox.” “Ok” says Fox. Fox laughs and laughs as he clean the dishes. The next night, Fox goes to Stork’s house. “Hello, Fox.” says Stork. Come in. We are having soup for dinner. Fox sees two tall jars. There is soup in the jars. Fox tries to eat some soup but he cannot. Stork eats all of his soup. He looks at Fox’s jar. A lot of soup is in the jar. “Don’t you like the soup?” asks Stork. Fox doesn’t answer and goes out of Stork’s house hungry.
THE FOX AND STORK (Organized Text)
In the forest, there are a fox and a stork. They are good friends. One day, Fox asks Stork “My dear friend, come to dinner at my house.” Fox puts some soup on a plate. He thinks it is funny. Stork comes to Fox’s house. Fox says “Hello, Stork. Come in. We have soup for dinner.” Stork looks at the plate. He tries to eat some soup, but he cannot eat with his long bill. Fox eats all of his soup. He looks at Stork’s plate. A lot of soup is in the plate. Fox asks “Do you like the soup?”. Stork doesn’t answer and goes out of Fox’s house hungry and angry. At the door, Stork says, “My dear friend, come to dinner at my house.” Fox says “Ok”. Fox laughs and laughs as he clean the plates. The next night, Fox goes to Stork’s house. Stork says “Hello, Fox. Come in. We have soup for dinner.” Fox sees two tall jars. There is soup in the jars. Fox tries to eat some soup but he cannot. Stork eats all of his soup. He looks at Fox’s jar. A lot of soup is in the jar. Stork asks “Do you like the soup?”. Fox doesn’t answer and goes out of Stork’s house hungry and angry.
